Geofeedia is a cloud-based tech company that allows you to draw a parameter anywhere in the world and see what's happening on social media. They also allow you to search by hash-tag, but everything at Geofeedia is location-first. They provide data to global new organizations, public safety departments, and corporate marketing teams. Silverleaf Geospatial built a custom application designed to allow their clients to embed maps in their own websites, showing a collection of social media posts. The platform has been promoted by Facebook, and used by Instagram, Mashable, and others to share social media about everything from the World Cup to Oktoberfest to natural disasters and marketing campaigns. |
Building this application required strict server-side locking and caching methods to ensure that it could easily withstand very high, and sustained viewer traffic, while still checking for media updates. On the client-side this is a mobile-ready, responsive app, with rich multi-media content and over a dozen UI interaction points embedded in the map, images, videos, and text elements. We worked with Geofeedia, developing within their environment and to their specifications, integrating their API end points, Amazon servers, in-house CDN, and version control through GitHub. The application was developed in a traditional LAMP stack. The app topped out at over 5000 hits per second on its first launch day!
